Psili Ammos is not just a place to stay — it is a love story that began in the early 1960s. Our grandfather, George Drakos, started building the property in 1962, piece by piece, with dedication, patience, and the help of his faithful donkey, Petros. He first built a small fish taverna by the sea, where travelers could rest and enjoy fresh fish and homemade meals lovingly prepared by our grandmother, Eirini. Soon after, he added three small rooms above it, creating a humble but welcoming place for guests to stay.
Back then, it was the very first building on Mylopotas Beach, a humble beginning that has since blossomed into a cherished family haven.
In the 1990s, the story continued with the next generation, who carried forward the same values and devotion to hospitality. Our parents Stelios and Lola embraced the family legacy, welcoming guests from all over the world with the warmth and genuine care that had defined Psili Ammos from the very beginning.
During this time, the rooms were thoughtfully renovated and gradually reimagined to meet the evolving needs of the island, while preserving the authentic spirit of the place. Comfort was enhanced, spaces were refined, and every detail was shaped with respect for tradition and a clear understanding of what travelers seek when they come to Ios — simplicity, beauty, and heartfelt hospitality.
Today, Psili Ammos continues to evolve under the care of the third generation, remaining a family-run hotel where past and present blend seamlessly, and where every guest is welcomed not just as a visitor, but as part of an ever-growing story.
The name “Psili Ammos” was given by locals long ago to the far end of the beach, where the north wind gently carried fine sand and created natural dunes. That hidden corner felt like a secret paradise — a place where the sea whispers and time slows down.
Today, our family continues to welcome guests with the same warmth and love. Our Cycladic-style rooms open to breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and the Ios coastline, offering a serene and romantic retreat. At Psili Ammos, every stay feels like coming home — and every sunset feels like a promise.
